Make Your Own Video
- Although the length of your video resume is up to you, employers may lose interest with a long video. We recommend a video of 3 minutes or less.
- The video is a tool for a perspective employer to have insight into your personality and communication skills. For example, post a video of yourself doing a presentation, sporting event, community event, singing, dancing, playing a musical instrument, swimming, whatever you may deem appropriate for a given situation. Excessive exposure or nudity should be avoided.
- If you have posted a video elsewhere on the internet, you can also post in on our site.
- Select an appropriate background. For example, for an academic job, use a library or a classroom setting. For a marketing or sales position, use an office or business background. For an entertainment industry job, you can dress up according to your best judgement. Of course, a neutral background could always work as well.
- Dress appropriately.
- Be relaxed and speak slowly and clearly.
- Remember, you can always replace a video.
- Make sure there are no background noises
- If a video is too intimidating, feel free to post pictures that best reflect your personality. Also, you are always free to simply just post your resume.
- Please remember that your qualifications are already described in your resume and you do not need to describe those again in the video. This is your chance to show the "real" you.
- You could have a family or friend interview you for your resume video.
- Don't be shy. Accentuate your positives. If you are young and energetic, show it. If you are experienced and don't need on the job babysitting, mention it. If you have a unique skill or talent, employers would love to know that. Employers also love non-smokers, and those with good attendance records.
